Album spotlight: OO.db - Angels & Demons

00.db - the illustrious pairing of John 00 Fleming and The Digital Blonde (aka Ricky Smith) - have just released their third album together on John's own label J00F Recordings. An evolution of the pair's previous Heaven & Hell releases, Angels & Demons showcases a deep progressive sound strongly influenced by aspects of multi-angle trance, and not a little chillout.

Fleming himself describes Angels & Demons as "a serious, purer version of the trance genre" and one that "varies between a very deep and progressive 125 beats per minute up to a full-on pounding 145." The second disc is, in the tradition of the Heaven & Hell albums, 100% chillout. John describes it as a "movie-length emotional musical odyssey in which we set out to write one chilled track, not realising it would run for one hour! It really embodies us as producers and demonstrates another side to what we can do away from dance music." The producers aren't abandoning the club of course, far from it... The primary drive behind 'Angels' was, in Fleming's words, "to create an album where you could play a whole DJ set sourced from the its tracks": Angels & Demons meets this challenge quite brilliantly.

00.db break new ground in more familiar dance BPM range as well as chillout with their commitment to creation from the ground up: "Ricky and I create each and every sound ourselves, making our tracks unique" explains John. "We're from a generation of producers who create sounds from scratch. We don't use sample libraries or pre-set banks. The result is an album that's as fresh as it is across-the-board atmospheric... Perhaps though we'll leave the final 'word' on A&D to Sony. The entertainment giant have signed up tracks from the album for an upcoming iPad/Playstation space simulation game... You probably couldn't underline the word 'atmosphere' more if you tried! 'Angels & Demons' is out on DD, CD and limited edition J00F USB stick on August 31st.

Album spotlight: Leon Boiler - Phantasma

It’s been two years since Leon Bolier’s debut album ‘Pictures’ captured hearts and captivated minds, and on August 31st his much-anticipated sequel ‘Phantasma’ came out on Spinnin’ Records. Shapeshifting and otherworldy, Phantasma earns its title. Spread over 150 minutes of compilation-worthy musical succession and zero minutes of filler, Phantasma’s two discs are Bolier’s canvas to paint the best of all worlds: atmospheric, sweeping synths (‘War of the Worlds,’ ‘2099’); judiciously applied and nectar-sweet vocals from the likes of Fisher, Marieke de Kruijff and Alana Aldea (‘By Your Side,’ ‘Irresistible’ & ‘Substitute,’ ‘The Sweetest Lie’); dark, cinematic explorations of the far galaxies of prog and trance (‘Creek,’ ‘The Attic,’ ‘Saturn’); and an array of dancefloor missiles that will shake foundations and free endorphins worldwide (‘Don’t Be Afraid,’ ‘Highland Walk,’ ‘Assembly Line,’ ‘Avalanche’ & more).

Phantasma’s wide-spectrum diversity is its greatest strength: these are tracks designed to fill the full progression of an all-night live DJ set, from warm-up to peak hour to sunrise chill. But thanks to the level of details and quality of melodies on display throughout Phantasma, the album is a hypnotic soundscape that invites at-home headphone listening as readily as it does in-club play. Bolier has amassed a seriously impressive list of sound-partners for his sophomore long-player: Joint Operations (John O’Callaghan), W&W, Roger Shah, Marcus Schossow, Sied van Riel and Joop all join him for collaborations that push the album’s compositions into lesser charted trance territories.

Phantasma is the sonic embodiment of the classically trained Bolier’s contagious, and often courageous, musical ethos: “trance with a twist.”

Ferry Corsten - Once apon a night Vol. 2

No, your eyes are not deceiving you, nor are your ears being duped… You are looking at the second double-packed, ready-to-wreck compact disc outing for Ferry Corsten’s new audio-line… in under 6 months!

When he opened ‘Once Upon A Night’s book back in March, we didn’t think the new compilation & tour concept were going to be a one-off. Few would have expected chapter 2 quite this early in the game though…Some kind of record perhaps? We must look it up…

Anyway as soon as we caught wind of a it, we charged down our usual lines of enquiry… “When’s it out?” “What’s on it?” When can we get a hold of? Can we give some away, etc !!? All was initially quiet on the Netherlands front. Then just as T.I. started to give up hope, a previously unpublished tracklist dropped into our inbox. Quickly followed by a couple of suitably-sized mp3s… Here we go then!

Both of the album’s discs are pronounced games of two halves. Those halves being: the names you know, and the ones you’re (likely) in the process of getting acquainted with. If there’s one name (aside, naturally, from Corsten’s) that has come to be associated with O.U.A.N. it’s probably Yuri Kane’s. The Russian producer opened the first chapter’s CD with a double-strength track-shot, and he’s back with the transcendentally-minded ‘Daylight’ doing much the same here. As the disc clears its overture section the first couple of headline acts roll out. Ferry’s ‘Once’ made an indelible mark on ‘Night’s first release and his ‘Presents Pulse’ for Vol. 2 is ‘Festival’. No doubt a nod to the season that’s currently upon us, its carousel-like main-line has a dark faintly-haunting fairground fresco to it.

As the mix hits mainstreet it’s BT (and by remix-proxy Chicane) who ease the mix smoothly up into its 5th gear with the ‘These Hopeful Machines’ standout ‘Always’. From there it’s left to the (excellent) likes of Audien, Black Hole stalwart Danjo and Peter Santos to bring the disc home.

Nothing plants the flag for the always-critical sound/vibe statement on a new DJ compilation series quicker than having a reliable core contingent of music producers feeding it tracks. A glance over the second disc's honour-roll tells you that that this if where Flashover production quartermasters are based; helping to sculpt & hone O.U.A.N.’s make-up. Mike Saint-Jules, Breakfast, Rafaël Frost & Tempo Giusto latest are the building blocks of the mix, and its no coincidence they’re all ‘returners’ from March’s debut.

In his July feature Pulser dropped a size-10 hint about a mystery track he’d just signed into The Netherlands... As it turns out it beamed-down to Flashover and ‘Sunstorm’ – all soaring synths and wide-open endorphin trip-switches - lives wonderfully up to its hype. Completing disc 2 - certainly the more banging yang to the first disc's melodic ying - are heavy-dancefloor-uplifters from Thomas Datt, Daniel Wanrooy, Klaus Gulart and ReOrder.

The Cosmics have had a pretty good run of it in 2010 thusfar... No, in fact make that a mighty good run of it… A pair of IDMA nominations (for Best Remixers and Best Trance Track) and a Best Selling Trance Artist win at the Beatport Awards have sped Bossi & Nic on their way to another standout threesixfive. Throw in an assignment from Atlantic Records to remix James Horners’ ‘I See You’ (perhaps better known as the theme from that small, little-seen art-house movie Avatar) and you can conclusively say that its a year that's lived up to expectation!

So to this S.O.T.T. Deluxe Edition then... what’s the rub there? Well it probably goes without saying but Sign of the Times has gone double-disc in order to accommodate a major musical expansion pack. In addition to the 13 original tracks you’re now getting all the mixes of all the single smashes to date. ‘Not Enough Time’, ‘Sign Of The Times’, ‘F.A.V.’, ‘Flatline’, ‘Under Your Spell’ and the latest, ‘London Rain’ (which, with no small amount of irony, and despite it being August, is exactly what T.I. can see outside the window at this point in time!) now come fully loaded with reworks from Markus Schulz, Andy Duguid, Sied, van Riel, Wally Lopez, Kyau & Albert, Duderstadt, Myon & Shane 54 and others.

Additionally there are some newly-prepped reworks from Russian melodic maestro Arty, US house-turned-trance supremo George Acosta, as well as Cold Blue, Steve Brian… well the list goes on. If all this sounds like it could be up your strasse, well we might be able to help direct one your way!

Album spotlight: Super8 and Tab

Empire

Cool… It’s word that hangs quite comfortably around the necks of Messers Eloranta and Mansnerus. They come from a cool – cold even – country, produce cool music and now they’ve come with a inaugural album with an-as-cool-as-you-like title, and a cover that’s, well... ah, just see for yourself!

Since the Fins went in permanent team-up mode in 2005 the pair haven’t put a foot wrong. ‘Empire’ though isn’t about history-past... Floor firebrands like ‘Suru’, ‘Elektra’ & ‘Helsinki Scorchin’ are not to be found... wisely being saved, no doubt for a 'The Greatest Hits of…' outing.

What you do get is a fluff-free, tight-as-you-like, 11 strong run of tracks on which vocals are in profusion. Anton Sonin has already dazzled on recent single ‘Black is the New Yellow’, and the likes of Julie Thompson, Alyna and new-scene-darling Betsie Larkin all shine bright. Once producers find a voice that’s a real ‘fit’ for their sound, it only folllows that they’re going to feature them time and time again. Such seems to be the case with Jan Burton. His first (and only) previous brush with Planet EDM was on Gabriel & Dresden’s 2006-er ‘Dangerous Power’. He’s now lending vocals to four (count ‘em!) 'Empire' tracks including current single ‘Mercy’ and slow-mo album kiss-off ‘Free Love’. Thus it’ll probably be his voice that in years to come you most closely associate with ‘Empire'.

Five minutes with: John OO Flemming

TI: Welcome along John! Now your new project Editions is a kick-back against “the commercialized state of dance music culture”. On a 1–10 scale how annoyed with it are you!!?
J00F: 10000!!! Clubland is on it's knees at the moment. Just look at the UK - where have all our clubs gone? The handful of 'superclubs' we have left are struggling to sustain monthly events. You want me to vent?
TI: We want you to vent!
J00F: People have been brainwashed into believing they have to see a celebrity DJ when they go out, but this comes at a cost, hence the inflated door price. Clubbing was never about this, we trusted the name above the door of the club. The promoter used to have to power to program his nights musically, we trusted him and supported weekly clubs regardless of who was playing. We all went to enjoy the sense of community and comradeship of enjoying the music in a likewise environment.
TI: What aspects of the commercialized state have particularly got your goat?!
J00F: The self-conscious DJ's and agents controlling the scene for all for the wrong reasons. They set out to become famous, become divas and cause so much trouble within the scene. We don't need people like this in the industry. The scene needs to split into two again, the divas can then do their thing on the commercial circuit (taking the drama with it), letting the underground scene rebuild itself to let new clubs, music and talent come through. We desperately need this...
TI: What is Editions going to offer to wean the clubber off the “props, pyrotechnics and faux VIP’s” nature of the scene?
J00F: When I'm in the mood for a serious clubbing night, I have no care for the aforementioned, I just care for the music. The less visual distractions going on, allows me to concentrate on the story the DJ is unfolding with his music. The better the sound system, the more I feel that story. This is exactly what I'm doing at my own JOOF Editions nights. I strip away all the props etc, and upgrade every sound system. I also ensure the lighting guys works with each and every DJ creating the ultimate music lovers dream.
TI: How long is the average J00F Editions set going to run?
J00F: The longer the better to be honest. It all depends on the license of the club. I much prefer playing longer sets allowing me to express myself musically and dip into all the music I love. That has always been the job of a DJ to use your music as a tool to unfold that story.
TI: You’re starting it at bass-camp in Brighton – what’s the plan in terms of taking it from there? J00F:: Not quite, no... Brighton will be our main hub but we've already tested it in Manila, San Francisco, Sweden and Argentina and with a 100% success rate. People were hungry for this and are wanting change. People came out the woodwork for these events; it's amazing!

Compilation spotlight: Digital Society International Vol. 3

They’ve outgrown the 'best kept secret' & ‘bright young hope’ tags, left ‘next big thing’…’ trailing in their wake and now – by our measure - they’re speeding, inexorably towards ‘new cornerstone of UK clubbing’. Give it up for Digital Society then; the best cotton-pickin’ society there is… well in England at least! Incarceration, incapacitation & living the other side of the planet are just three perfectly valid reasons why you might not make through the door of the north’s best trance night. Being the typically facilitating lot they are though they're about to bring – once again - the sound of the Society to you.
This time out, on the mix of the twin discs, they have A&A …Entirely different to A&B and nothing to do with breakdown assistance, it is in fact local lad Activa and from just a bit lower down the country, white-hot Ashley Wallbridge. Between them they’re constructed two discs that bristle with big names, rapacious bass & beats and synths that matter. Big names you say? Try Max Graham, Andy Moor, Ronski Speed, John Askew & Lange... and that's just for starters.

Three tech trance heroes take Mark Sherry’s anthem to the next level in this second part of ‘Fractured 2010 (Take Me There)’. Starting with Maarten de Jong, he puts on maximum force with immense techy drive and filthy synth sounds. Second in line is Fabio Stein. He chops up the original vocal and creates a fat dub mix with some genuine shuffle and raw electro synth lines. Thirdly, BRK3 goes techno all the way, leaving the vocal intact and adding an utterly massive arrangement. EPIC!

A very special moment has come for Leon Bolier. He is releasing his second artist album: 'Phantasma'. With 'Phantasma' Leon presents his self as more than just a great dance floor producer, he goes way beyond it. Naturally there are true big room anthems like the epic 'That Morning', which was released on Leon's own label Streamlined. But there's a lot more. This album is all about, as Leon likes to put it; "music that can be enjoyed wherever you are". Which resulted in a number of songs that show coherence and tell a story that fluctuates between reality and imagination, thus the title of the album: 'Phantasma'.

Das Projekt HOTEL BUENAVIDA vereint ein vielfältiges Ensemble aus drei erfahrenen Musikern, die unterschiedlicher nicht sein können. Hernan Brando stammt aus Argentinien, lebt allerdings seit etlichen Jahren bereits in Italien. Er ist Sänger, Komponist und Schauspieler. Er spielte für Papa Ratzinger in Vaticano, gab Konzerte für Amnesty International und unterstützt das Festival Evangelium. Dario “Tango” Tanghetti ist ein Virtuose auf dem Gebiet der Percussions. TI: You kicked off your 'Summer of Schulz' yesterday. What does that consist of?
MS: Well over the next 3 weeks I've got some big things going on so GDJB thought they'd bring them all together under the one banner.
TI: Starting with Coldharbour Day, right?
MS: Right.... This was our 3rd. We've been doing them on the 28th of July each year to celebrate major markers in CH's history.
TI: So what was this year's?
MS: It was actually the 100th release on the label, so we ran a special day of mixes on AHFM, with all the producer/DJs that have been instrumental in the label since 2004 mixing it up. We had a great reaction - I was very happy with how it all went down!
TI: Great! So what is the 100th release?
MS: It's my new single 'Perception'. As some people out there know its a very special one for me. The Cass & Slide original has been part of my life since I was a clubber, going to The Gallery every week. I did a reinterpretation for the 'Do You Dream?' album with Justine Suissa and it just seemed like synergy to make it the 100th release.
TI: And where does the Schulz Summer take you from there?
MS: Writing this I've got about an hour to go before I go on stage at Sunrise in Poland and then there's Pleasure Island &Tomorrowland, tomorrow (!), Nature One in Germany (which I just know is going to be off the hook!) next week on the 30th and then Dance Valley next month.
TI: Cool! And Nature One is going out on the radio too, right?
MS: It is indeed, on Sunshine Live; so if you can't make it, tune in and enjoy!
TI: And then the home-run, Ibiza via Budapest.
MS: That's right. I recorded the Budepest gig I did a week or so back as the August GDJB World Tour night and loaded the set with an incredible amount of exclusives, so that should be hot! Then, on Aug 10th I've got my solo 7hr all-nighter at Amnesia in Ibiza. I'm playing there 8 times this summer but this night is the one! I did one in September last year and from experience all I can say is if you're on the island, get down there. I'll make it worth your while!

John O'Callaghan

TI: John, last year was busy; this one looks like it's right out on the red line! How are you keeping it all together?
JOC.: There certainly have been times when I wonder that myself! But it's a great privilege to play at events around the globe.
TI: Let’s kick off with the label then. You started in Jan, you look like you’re flying. Is it all going the way you expected it to?
JOC.: I couldn’t be happier - really. Subculture's releases have been very strong so far and I am glad to see the label form somewhat of a cult following. There is a lot more quality material to come - so stay tuned!
TI: ‘Desert Orchid’ is the latest J.O.C. single; where does the title come from?
JOC.: Well my dad has been an avid racing fan all his life, and people might know the horse Desert Orchid. A story about it popped up on telly one night and thought I would name a tune after it in honour of his hobby!
TI: You’ve also started running Subculture events in Ireland; how are they going?
JOC.: They've been monumental for us - really. We waited for years for our own first event in Dublin. It sold out and if you check the footage on my YouTube channel you can see we all had an amazing time. The next one's in December.
TI: And there's another compilation coming?
JOC.: Absolutely. I am right in the middle of compiling the tracklist for Subculture 2010 now. We've got a 8th of October release date, with brand new and exclusive tracks from all our Subculture artists.
TI: You’re playing 6 times in Ibiza this year. How healthy is she looking in 2010?
JOC.: She's thriving, you can barely walk down the sunset views at night – it is thronged! Cream Amnesia has been buzzing every week with close to capacity numbers. I have been on the decks 3 times so far, with 3 to go - love it!
TI: Ibiza to one side, what else do you have looming on the gig horizon?
JOC.: Global Gathering UK at the end of July, The Gallery, Airport Jam Estonia, Pacha NYC then off to S. America tour – oh and Toronto and LA for the big festivals too! Gods Oz Tour in Oct - Airmiles card at the ready!
TI: Radio shows, labels, club nights, compilations – is anything missing from the set? Have you got more Subcultures to add? A men’s fragrance perhaps?!
JOC.: Ha! Not quite, I am however working on my next artist album due for release 2011. I am really excited about the tunes I have demoed so far, there are a couple of tunes with big potential (I hope!), and thrown into the mix some classic uplifting trance.

Richard Durand

TI: Richard, you've been passed the In Search Of Sunrise reins this year. Did you have to think hard before accepting them?
RD: Yep, long and.... When you take on a responsibility like that you have to. We already had a plan for my own compilation in the works, but then Black Hole approached me about ISOS. I chewed it over, deliberated and decided it was the right route to go.
TI: Everyone's an individual - you've obviously got your own take on it. What adjectives would you use to describe your ISOS sound?
RD: This is really hard to say... I did try to keep the ISOS feel, but I’m sure that I’ve picked tracks other than ones Tiësto would have. My style is not the same as his. As you say everyone is an individual!
TI: Can you pick one track that you think most clearly exemplifies the sound?
RD: Give me two and we’re talking! I’d go with Zoo Brazil featuring Rasmus Kellerman ‘There Is Hope’ and San vs. Wendel Kos ‘Kiss Of Life’ (Ibiza Sunrise Mix). I think between those two tracks lie all the elements of my ISOS.
TI: ISOS Radio launches this month. What's the one thing you'd like to achieve with it above all others?
RD:: Well I’ll only be doing 1 ISOS compilation every year but there are so many new tracks I would like to hear to people. The show will allow that. There are other reasons, of course, but this is the main one.
TI: Ok, we’re keen! How do we get hold of it?!
RD: For now it is going out as a podcast on iTunes, but over the course of the next six months the show will start arriving on different internet and FM stations as we begin to syndicate it around the world.
TI: The ISOS tour looks to be rolling hard. Where's it stopping next?
RD: Next stop will be the North America tour and of course Australia! Two places I can never get enough of!
TI: How's Ibiza looking to your eyes this year?
RD: Amazing, but then it always is! I love to play at my resident club Judgement Sundays - the atmosphere is near unbeatably great!

Solarstone

TI: Rich you have some Cream @ Amnesia action lined up next month... What have you got up your sleeve to r-block it with?
Ss: Several killer remixes of tracks from the new album which I will be debuting on the night and also some brand new mixes of Solarstone classics.
TI: Touchstone is one of the most diverse albums from a trance artist in years. Can you see a time when that tag just won't fit?
Ss: The 'trance artist' tag is one with which I do identify with at the moment for sure, but my recent experimentations in edgier orchestral film score music have opened up a new avenue which I'm exploring alongside my electronic dance music productions. Perhaps that will become a larger part of my repertoire, but I will always love trance music in all its incarnations.
TI: Touchstone's an album about inspirations big and small. For giggles tell us the smallest one you can pin-point on the album?
Ss:: There is a moment on 'The Best Way To Make Your Dreams Come True' which was inspired by the Pet Shop Boys 'West End Girls', where a female backing vocal appears, that moment gives me a little tingle every time I hear it (as it reminds me of being 15 years old and snogging my girlfriend!).
TI: Both Touchstone and RainStarsEternal have a track with a Seven Cities/Solarcoaster feel to it, albeit in updated form. Do you find those tracks especially challenging?
Ss: They are challenging indeed, I use that 'classic Solarstone sound' for when I write a particular kind of melody, which comes around every couple of years. As it is a sound I spent a lot of time developing and nurturing I enjoy creating tracks which have something familiar about them.
TI: 'There's A Universe' has been described as your "down a rabbit hole moment". How did you view it when you finished it?
Ss: The track is a sort of 'Phil Spector meets electronica' record, it is very different indeed but I still think it has the characteristics of the Solarstone ethos embodied in it, which are 'warmth, melody and emotion'. It is a little bonkers though!
TI: What's the latest on Elec. Architecture 2?
Ss: I am taking my time with it; I have a clutch of brilliant tracks from some very diverse and creative producers signed up for the record so far and I'm aiming at an early 2011 release for it.

Activa

TI: Rob, you released your debut album last year. Were you satisfied with its reception?
ACT: I was really pleased with it, yes. It was a project that I put as much effort into as I possibly could. In addition to being personally happy with the results it was great to have such good feedback. I don’t think I could have asked for more.
TI: With the benefit of 10 months hindsight which tracks do you think had the highest impact on the dance floor, and did you, yourself end up with a personal favourite?
ACT: I think that ‘Transmission’ has definitely had the best impact. It was made with a club in mind rather than an album as such. ‘Long Way Back’, the collaboration with Giuseppe Ottaviani gets great reactions too, both on dance floors and feedback from listeners.
TI: You’ve just launched you own label Borderline. What are your aims and aspirations for the imprint?
ACT: I suppose the aim of Borderline is to be the platform to release trance, which keeps a bit more of an ‘energy’ about it as well as keeping the quality of the music as high as possible. I am working with some amazing new artists like Sonic Element and Impulsive Drive and more established producers like JK Walker and Marcos.
TI: So what do you have lined up as the launch releases?
ACT:: The first release is called ‘The Fall’. It’s a collaboration track between myself and Dave Parkinson. He has a few aliases the main two probably being Prime Mover and Revolution 9. We have decided to resurrect Revolution 9 for the collaboration. Its getting amazing feedback so far and will hopefully set the benchmark for the quality of trance that Borderline will be releasing.
TI: Fantasy Island time: if you could sign any trance artist to Borderline who would it be?!
ACT: Stoneface & Terminal! The guys are amazing producers. Their style has changed quite a bit from the kind of trance I loved by them, but my choice would still be S&T.
TI: After mixing ‘Live As. 6’ for Discover early last year you’re shortly going to be back out on compilation duty. Tell us about that?
ACT: Yeah, I am mixing the second disc of the new DS International series along with Ashley Wallbridge. It took me quite a long time to put together and will hopefully show. I was able to license one of my favourite ever tracks, Joker Jam – Innocence which gives the disc a great opening atmosphere. I’m excited to see how it’s received!
TI: That’s excellent, one of our all-timers as well that one! Now you’ve just signed with Assured Artists – what prompted that move?
ACT: James was my manager at Fresh and someone that, since joining, I had only worked with. We both have similar ideas, music tastes and it was a natural progression really to move and work with him still once Assured was running. I think keeping the same manager (as long as you have a good working relationship) is very important.
TI: The gig diary looks busy, where are you out and about on DJ manoeuvres for the rest of the summer?
ACT: I am pretty busy this summer, which is great... I have Tomorrowlands in Belgium, Beefree Festival in Slovakia very soon as well as dates at Godskitchen, Digital Society (for the album launch, 1015 in San Francisco and Art of Trance in Italy, which I can’t wait for!

One year after Marc de Simon's previous album "A-Life" has been released, the artist presents his third album "Salvation in Trance" now in collaboration with Port-au-Trance Recordings.

The new album features cutting-edge tracks in modern trance sound, which are similar to a kind of "salvation" due to their freshness, and it is characterized by the typical style of Marc de Simon. Stunning melodic elements, progressive tracks with the potential to become big hymns, balearic, and dreamy elements will take you on a fantastic voyage into the world of trance music.

The album contains absolutely new tracks like "Stars of Scandinavia", "Euphoria" and "Reversal of Fortune" as well as brilliant new 2010 versions of his greatest hits "Rainbow Sky", "Fall And Tears" or "Wings", and "China", which are really true makeovers. Some names seem to have been there from the very moment you fell in love with dance music. Chicane is one of them. For nearly 15 years, UK producer Nick Bracegirdle has been part of the scene, hitting high peaks with ‘Offshore’, ‘Saltwater’, ‘Don’t Give Up’, ‘Stoned In Love’ and the more recent ‘Poppiholla’ and ‘Hiding All The Stars’. After three successful artist albums, 2009 saw the release of Chicane’s ‘Best of’ album, a prelude to his new one: ‘Giants’.

When it comes to great heights, Chicane’s been there alright . Working with A-class artists such as Bryan Adams, Tom Jones, Maire Brennan from Clannad and Keane, made his music attract a wide audience. ‘Giants’ displays that diversity, from the ambient opening track ‘Barefoot’ to the housy radio-hit ‘Come Back’, warm progressive ‘Middledistancerunner’ in collaboration with Owl City singer Adam Young and enthralling classic interlude called ‘Titles’. Chicane has crossed all boundaries and shows that those 15 years have only made him more creative.
